In August this year, I set myself a years worth of goals and reflected on the year that had gone by. You can read all about my goals for the year ahead here.
I made some goals for the month of August to hopefully get me closer to my yearly goals. If I am honest I think I had a few too many goals in August. I didn’t really have a focus for the month of August I just tried to do bits of everything. My biggest mistake this month was not having a singular focus.
August was an insane month, we had the Royal Queensland Show better known as The Ekka, a number of weekend trips to see family and friends, my birthday, getting sick and we decided it was definitely time for us to move house.
Monthly Goals Report for September 2017
At the beginning of September I set new monthly goals with a little more focus. I cannot believe the month is over already. I feel like the months are going at hyper speed. Below I will show you were I succeeded and where I failed.
I cannot believe how much I am enjoying blogging/writing. Ever since high school I have dreaded writing, my not-so-kind high school teacher told me that I could not write. Because she was a teacher and presumably smarter than me, I believed her. I still might not be the best writer, but at least I have rediscovered my joy for it.
So if you are an English teacher, please never destroy a students joy for writing simply because they are not academically good at it.
Grow my pinterest views from 3k to 5k. Failed. I am still around the 3k-4.5k mark with Pinterest. I believe Pinterest has recently made some changes and that could account for this non-growth.
I am looking at getting a scheduling system to use to make life a bit easier.
Write, Edit, Link and Pin two new blog posts. Completed. I posted three blog posts this month. I would really like to write more how to / diy post moving forward.
Now that the house is mostly unpacked I hope to have more free time to work on projects for diy posts.
My Newest Blog Posts
Continue to work through the lessons in Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. I know my blog is a complete baby, but I am hoping that this will actually be of benefit. I can only imagine having to go back through years worth posts and update them with the lessons from Michelle’s course.
So my intention is to (hopefully) get most of it right the first time round. It might take me a little bit longer to see results than those who already have established blogs and audiences, but I have to start where I am.

Reach my ninth thousand dollars. Completed. I am so happy to have completed this challenge this month. You can read my ninth thousand dollars savings challenge post.
My thousand dollar savings challenge is about seeing how little things can grow into big things. Small investments done consistently and continuously can create great wealth. Stop worrying about how long it will take and just start with the smallest task and when it's done move on to the next.
Blog News and Lessons Learned
This month I learned how to make blog images unpinnable and how to hide Pinterest images in my posts to be pinned.
This is actually really exciting because my DIY printing planner printable post has step by step screen shots throughout the post and I don't want those boring images crowding out my pretty images I made especially for Pinterest.
I have joined some Facebook groups and left some as well this month. Some groups just weren't my people and I didn't like their negative/bitchy vibes. Thankfully I have two groups that I am enjoying being in so I am happy with my progress with Facebook groups.
I am still finding that I am getting overwhelmed by the sheer amount of things I should be doing. I just keep reminding myself to take it one step at a time. Starting a Blog + Business is a full time job and I already have a full time job. So I need to remember that I will take longer to achieve things some other bloggers can.
I have almost doubled my page views this month which is really exciting. I really hope to double it again next month.
Monthly Goals for October 2017
Grow my Pinterest views from 3k to 5k. I am looking into investing in a scheduling system and possibly a Pinterest guide / course. Since I am still working on writing new posts and implementing Michelle’s course I am not wanting to overload myself with courses. I will continue to manually work on my Pinterest account this month and see how much I can grow it organically.
Write, Edit, Link and Pin FOUR new blog posts. I decided to up the blog post goal this month. I have an ambitious goal of reaching 50 blog posts on my site by Christmas and a grand goal to reach over 100 posts by August next year.
Reach my tenth and eleventh thousand dollars before Christmas. I am confident that I should be able to achieve this as I’m already more than half way there. I will have a post about this soon my my blog and I will tell you how I will spend them both.
I love creating my thousand dollars, it gives me such a sense of empowerment.
Since the contributions to my thousand dollar account come from things like loose change from lunches or refunds from money I’ve already spent, it gives me the opportunity to make a decision that I might not have if it weren’t collected together.
Above are my three major goals for the month of October which I will try to direct most of my attention to. Other things I would like to get done this month would be to tell friends and family that I'm blogging, list more planner covers in my shop, write more creative/diy posts and reach 1000+ page views for the month.
If you are interested in starting a handmade side hustle a good place to start would be opening an Etsy shop. While I encourage people to get their own site, Etsy is a great place to start and test the waters with your products.
When you are ready to really build your handmade business I recommend getting your own site. Buy your domain as early as possible to secure your brand name.
However if you are serious about creating your handmade business you should read my post about starting your blog + Biz with shopify. I highly encourage you to establish your own website and build up your brand as early as possible.
